As a contractor to the Federal Government or a subcontractor to a prime contractor, you may receive government property. Government property generally falls into one of several categories: (1) material; (2) special tooling; (3) test equipment; (4) property designed for military operations; and (5) facilities used for production, maintenance, research, development, or test purposes.
The contractor has defined obligations in the use and management of the property. An unfavorable assessment by the government of a contractor’s Property Management System may result in financial penalties. Also, there are costs associated with government property management that must be considered by a prime or a subcontractor.
